Why I Love Linux Operating System
I’ve used Linux for the last seven years and I can attest that it is one of the most powerful OS around our computer world.
The popularity has risen in the last few years and I want to attribute the most important reasons for this;
It is an Open Source OS
We all love free things. That’s why when during Christmas kids may look forward to Santa for some things or while shopping you will try to find some coupon codes so that you can get a discount. Literally in life, there’s nothing like free lunch. As the old adage goes, what has worth is worthy paying for. That’s brings me to the issue of open source model of Linux. In the programming world, an open source application means that anyone can download it via the internet for free and use it.
Generally, the parent company of the application may offer it for free, in some instance there may be some license regulating the extent of use, but may recoup some revenue by extending support and customization services in case you need any for the application. Most software companies may offer there software as open source in the quest to increase the popularity of their software.
However, the most basic reason that may induce companies to offer their software or program for free is usually to attract a community of programmers who in turn will help in the development of new features in the future. They know that technology is fast evolving and to be at par with the dynamism, then it’s vital to have a community of programmers who can come up with new ideas for the applications.
The OS Has Rapid Upgrades
If new features are needed by clients, then the community of programmers may try to develop them. Usually it’s kind of a competition among programmers because they can showcase their work in such community and increase their chances of becoming more visible to potential employers.
The upgrades are usually available at least every six months and come with new and interactive features thus making it more powerful. And the best thing is that you can get free support by joining the community of programmers. They are usually ready to guide you where necessary and without much ado.
The best thing that I live about the upgrades is that they will usually come along with all new software that have been checked and verified by the developers and you don’t have to hassle for the software online, in which case many may have malicious attachment embedded into them if you are not keen enough to download the software from the parent company.
On the other hand, the upgrades, and will always come with pre-installed drivers with makes the functioning of hardware smoother unlike the case of Windows where you will need to source some specific drivers if you want to use a new hardware.
Linux is Powerful for running any Application
I really love this. From mobiles, to thermostats to even establishing your own weather station, just name it. Again it is free, so if you are the kind that loves experimenting with different OS, then Linux is your best shot. Above all, you can use the Linux kernel on another underlying hardware without experiencing any difficulties.
Its interoperability helps in recognizing another OS and can just install alongside it. That is if you are using Mac OS X you still can install Linux kernel alongside and still use both OS without any problems.
It Is More Secure
The firewall of Linux is embedded in the core system of the kernel thus the case of intruding malicious programs or malware in the OS is next to impossible. This means that you virtually protected against any malware. And, like I said again, the OS comes with software which have been checked and verified from the manufacturers thus lowering the risks unlike in Windows.
